THE MULTI-PLANE SHOW: Dec 12

Corey Helford Gallery is proud to present “The Multi-Plane Show”. The gallery’s largest group show of 2009 brings together its favorite artists from the new contemporary fine art movement to pay tribute to the early days of animation. For this unique exhibition, each artist created an original painting using the multi-plane, which was made famous by pioneer animators Ub Iwerks, Max Fleischer, Bill Garrity, and Walt Disney. Consisting of three individual surfaces housed in a custom-made frame, the multi-plane creates depth and a three-dimensional effect through two glass foreground layers and a background wood panel.

Los Angeles artist Natalia Fabia, known for her paintings of sultry and seductive women, notes, “I was excited to translate my traditional form of painting into a 3-D format as well as challenged by this new way of executing my work.” Artist and animator Carlos Ramos (Creator of The X’s and Annie Award winner for Chalkzone) adds “working on my multi-plane piece was an engaging way to revisit animation’s beginnings and experiment with this cool, old-school medium.”

The show features an unparalleled lineup of artists, including Todd Schorr, Gary Baseman, COOP, Tim Biskup, Sylvia Ji, Ron English and Tokidoki. And for this landmark exhibition, Corey Helford Gallery partnered with London’s StolenSpace Gallery to feature works by some of England’s sought-after contemporary artists D*Face, and Chloe Early. Open to the public, the reception for “The Multi-Plane Show” takes place on Saturday, December 12, and the show will be on view until December 17, 2009.

Delicate, A Solo Show by Kurtis Rykovich: Dec 11

Luminous, lush and fashionable works by the Bay Area's own artist extraordinaire, Kurtis Rykovich. Girls with dreamy expressions and stylin' fashions pose in their own beautiful fantasy worlds. Wootini Holiday Show: Dec 4

December 04, 2009 - W
This year's "Wootini Holiday Show" has a bit of a theme - Holiday Cards. Guest curator Amy Richards worked tirelessly to help bring about a fun and affordable show centered around the unsung art of the "Greeting Card". We feel she helped pull together a great roster of familiar faces and new artists ranging from Monterrey Mexico to Brooklyn. Each artist was invited to create an original card-art piece (which can be removed as they are sold so you can send it out *before* the holidays). Some of the pieces were selected for limited edition printed cards, available in 5-packs and as singles. The show will feature other great items such as one-of-a-kind ornaments, screen printed posters, T-shirts, coloring books, and other affordable art that you can take to give as gifts for the holidays.

Contributing artists include David Eichenberger, Laurie Shipley, Joe Parlett, Mario Marzan, Jason Whitman, Sarah Carrier, Kelly Green, Loose Pockets (Jerstin Crosby and Orrvoki Halme), Casey Porn, David Lanham, Jason Hankins, Jeremy Thompson, David Rose, Queenie, Danny Miller, Yahid Rodriguez, Amy Richards, and more.

Living in your Dreams: Nov 19

London Miles Gallery presents this show in their new gallery space from Yoko D'holbachie. The Japanese artist is known for her Pop Surrealist paintings and this show will exhibit her largest body of solo work yet.

This new collection aims to interrupt the meaning of dreams, and the spirits that journey through our subconscious. At first glance the viewer is faced with colourful and strange creatures wondering in a neon world, yet hidden under her externally pleasantly painted lands lays something dark and mysterious.
